Genuine antique/vintage steamer trunk by M. Cherry Trunks and Traveling Bags from the late 1800s. Beautiful statement piece!
This rectangular trunk features wooden banding and metal accent hardware throughout. Brass latches are both working locks. Add glass on top for coffee table, end table, end of bed trunk, or display decor in any room.
Has the classic M.Cherry branding on the inside of the lid. A high-quality chest like this would have traveled around the globe on early steam ships and on the back of horse-drawn carriages.
History (from Wikipedia): Steamer trunks (named after their location of storage in the cabin of a steam ship, or "steamer") which are sometimes referred to as flat-tops, first appeared in the late 1870s, although the greater bulk of them date from the 1880–1920 period. They are distinguished by either their flat or slightly curved tops and were usually covered in canvas, leather or patterned paper and about 14 inches (36 cm) tall to accommodate steamship luggage regulations.
Condition: rips, tears, scratches, stamps due to its age and history; discoloration and staining on the inside; one leather handle on the side is missing - all of which add to the beauty and genuine antique nature.
Delivery available for a fee depending on location.
