Details are as follows:
Yellow bowl: 9 5/16" diameter and 5 3/4" high; dark production speckles on bowl bottom interior; 1 exterior rim chip and 1 rim flea bite.
Peach bowl: 8 5/16" diameter and 4 3/4" high; some light crazing on interior and exterior; slight amount of missing glaze (production) on bottom edge.
Blue bowl: 7 1/4" diameter and 4 1/4" high; chip on exterior rim; scratch on interior bottom; some random spots of missing glaze (production) on exterior bottom.
Pink bowl: 6 1/4" diameter and 3 7/8" high; great condition; areas of missing glaze and blue speckles (production) on exterior bowl bottom. Interestingly, in addition to the usual Crown Pottery crown imprint, the number 1907 is also impressed in an area just underneath the crown. (Not sure what this number refers to, however “on January 30, 1907 the four Ransbottom Brothers decided to incorporate the company” and “on February 6, 1907 , the name of the company was changed to The Ransbottom Brothers Pottery Company”. Perhaps the impressed 1907 on this bowl refers to this historical date? Pure speculation at this point as no searches have yielded any clues.)
Green Bowl: 5 3/16" diameter and 3 1/2" high; interior and exterior crazing of glaze; what looks to be a hairline crack on bowl interior doesn't appear to go all the way through, so believe it is just a crack in the glaze; some missing spots of glaze on exterior bowl bottom.
History:
"In 1900, Frank Ransbottom and his brothers Ed, Johnnie, and Mort purchased the Oval Ware and Brick Company of Roseville, Ohio, and founded Ransbottom Brothers Pottery. The firm manufactured stoneware. By 1916, it was the largest producer of stoneware jars in America."
"Around 1920, Ransbottom merged with Robertson Clay Products Company, a manufacturer of bricks and tiles. The company name was changed to RRP Company. The combined company made art pottery, garden ware, and utilitarian products".
"In 1937, the company began offering "crown" ovenware that featured an ovenproof whiteware body. Robinson-Ransbottom could now produce bowls, casseroles, refrigerator jars and custard cups. Many of the bowls were impressed with the Robinson-Ransbottom crown trademark on the bottom of the piece." The 1945 Robinson-Ransbottom catalog pictured Crown Pottery Plaid pattern No. 206 nesting mixing bowls and advertised the bowls were available in 5 pastel shades, sold in sets or open stock.
After over a century of continuous operations, Robinson-Ransbottom Co. closed its doors in 2005.
