An adaptable and bulletproof bike for a 5’0 -5’5” rider. Current setup is for the shorter end of that height range. It was owned by a junior shredder and around-town daily freedom machine for a few years. She called it her "forever bike" in middle school. But... has moved-on to race machines. Nothing is forever! It would make a great bikepacking rig. The horizontal dropouts allow for a singlespeed conversion too. Tires have moderate wear. Surly Dirt Wizard tires are heavy duty; emphasis on "heavy". This bike spent a year on 27.5”+ and then ran with a 29” wheelset for a couple of years. It is a Surly… lends itself to iteration, customization and personalization! It also ran riser bars and a higher/ longer stem as the junior rider/owner grew taller. It also had a longer dropper post for a taller saddle as the rider got taller. Some rock chips and scrapes on the paint; although had protective helicopter tape on downtube and chainstays for much of its life. This 11sp drivetrain has light wear and crisp shifting. The 26t chainring and 42t cassette is a very good low gear for climbing and loaded packing and front range climbs (similar low range as a 32t chainring and 51t cassette). The RaceFace Cinch chainrings are easy to swap for different sizes. The 26t chainring would be good for a singlespeed MTB setup. The SID select+ fork is barely used. The cables and housing for brakes and mech are quite long, but will work well with alt bars, riser bars, longer stem or for clearing a handlebar bag. I’ll include the OG Tektro shorter rear brake hose in case you want to shorten the rear brake cable. Saddle is brand new. Grips are brand new. Comes with RaceFace Chester pedals. Has Cush Core insert in the rear tire. Setup tubeless with Stan’s sealant a couple of weeks ago. Brakes bled at that time (Shimano mineral oil). Chain wear is minimal (<0.5 stretch).
Current K-Monk suspension build is pretty close to the OEM for this 2021 model:
