condition: good
make / manufacturer: Jeff Tabor
This is an original hand drawn art piece by renowned artist Jeff Tabor. Mr. Tabor created this in 1981 after the tragic death of musician John Lennon. Mr. Tabor still creates art and operates Art Exchange Gallery in Santa Fe, N.M.
This has 4 individual panels of slightly different sizes, affixed to a backing board. The media used according to the label were grease pencil, "zerox", black paper, and graphite. There was an original mat that was glued to the art board, and the back of the art was glued to another backing board. When I found this, I could see there was a water stain on the mat, the rear dust cover was ripped, and the frame was scratched up. I removed the frame, the mat and backing from the art board. I kept the original art show label, indicating an $800 price.
3 of the 4 panels have some small blisters / bubbles, but there are no obvious water stains front or back. The 1st panel has a 3" horizontal crease, and 8 or so oval shaped blisters / bubbles. Panel 2 has about 8 smaller blisters. Panel 3 has several small blisters. Panel 4 has a slight rip at the top, but it is covered by the mat. The crinkled texture is original by the artist.
As the original mat was damaged, I contacted Mr. Tabor, who kindly agreed to sign a new mat for me. I had a very similar new acid free mat cut and shipped it to Mr. Tabor. He was very nice in communicating with me and sent the newly signed mat back promptly. He also stated that there was nothing he could do about the blisters in the art.
The new mat covers the 4 panels evenly and will frame nicely with a new backing board. It is a bit large than the art board, but it is the same size as the original mat and is balanced nicely in front heights. I put new acid free removable 2-sided tape around the perimeter of the art board and affixed it to the mat. The back of the art board still has the original glue marks, which would cover up when reframing.
The size of the art in the opening is 30 5/8" wide x 10 1/2" high. The overall mat is 35 3/4" wide x 16 1/2" high.
This will be padded and well and shipped promptly by UPS.
