This is the D'Angelico Excel 1942 Archtop Guitar. Built by master luthier Gene Baker in Arroyo Grande, California. It is in excellent condition like new.

It features a solid carved spruce top, AAA flamed maple back and sides, a one piece flamed maple neck, an ebony fingerboard with a mother of pearl block inlay, tortoise multi-bound pickguard, Grover Imperial tuners, D'Angelico trapeze tailpiece, gold-plated hardware, and 6105 fretwire. Also featuring a Johnny Smith Lollar pickup with volume and tone pots mounted on the pickguard.

To ensure the accuracy of the reproduction, an original 1942 Excel was put through an MRI machine in which two, and three dimensional images were created and sent to master luthier Gene Baker. This Excel symbolizes the pinnacle of craftsmanship and captures the majestic D'Angelico tone coveted for decades by archtop enthusiasts.

This incredible instrument offers a broad, yet perfectly balanced tonal spectrum with a deep bass response and a crisp high end harmonically rich chords ring with a piano-like clarity. Single notes are incredibly articulate, yet warm.

True to the D'Angelico spirit, the USA 1942 Master Builder Excel is adorned with all the accoutrements of its iconic predecessors including the signature stairstep tailpiece, mother of pearl Excel inlay, and square block inlays. Modern touches have been added such as a truss rod with a distinct Art Deco truss rod cover, and gold Grover Super Rotomatic tuners.

It weighs 6 lbs 13 oz, has a 24.5" scale length, and a 1.75" nut width.

The serial number is 1628-032.

This guitar is in amazing condition, no cracks or repairs. Please see all the photos. It includes its original hardshell case.
