I am giving away a sitar. It isn’t a high end sitar, but it sounds great. I restored it five years ago or so. There is a catch—the wood holding one of the strings cracked and the strings slips. I think it was the jor string, but my memory may be failing me. Depending on how you play you can just not use that string. Or you can take the instrument to a luthier who works on Indian instruments to have the head opened and the problem repaired. I am giving the instrument away because my life is busy and I just do not have time to deal with it.
I did not get an upper tumba with this instrument when I bought it. It comes in a basic case that’s beat up but if you want a fiberglass case Musician’s Mall in Berkeley will sell you one, or you can get a nice D.K. Das case from India Mart. The strings are ancient and need to be replaced, there are tutorials online and plenty of places to buy Roslau wire.
Please only take this instrument if you want to play Shastriya Sangeet. This instrument will be excellent when repaired and it would be a shame to have it sitting a living as a decoration.
