We at Elk Run Farm are looking for a new “Mama Hen.”

This is a person who already loves to cook for big groups with farm fresh ingredients, including our regeneratively raised meat. A natural in the kitchen, our desired Mama Hen (of any gender!) is someone who will make sure our team of farmers, herbalists, administrators, parents, dreamers, teachers, and land stewards is well nourished from the foods and medicines we grow.

Our dream hire enjoys tidying up & beautifying any space they enter, living on a farm, cooking indoors and outdoors, utilizing organic ingredients, living sustainably & in relationship to land, and thriving in community.

Ideally, this person would trade about fifteen hours of labor per week in tasks such as:

Nixtamalizing corn
Processing farm ingredients to make accessible for quick lunches
Following and creating recipes, adding their notes to our master food document
Re-supplying on bulk goods
Making weekly stews and roasts, flatbreads and cornbreads
Making bone broth seasonally
Helping preserve the harvest in pestos, jams, sauerkrauts, and more
Stocking onsite refrigerators with our wares
Taking inventory of foods and kitchen supplies
Wiping down counters, general cleanup, dish sweeps, tidying, vacuum and sweep
Cooking for larger numbers on Fridays at our team lunches (~20 people)
Cooking for occasional internal events for our nonprofit, such as quarterly staff meetings, special gatherings, etc.

In return, this person receives FREE room and board at Elk Run Farm, which includes:

1. eating off the land here at Elk Run, with relatively unrestricted access to unpasteurized eggs, regeneratively grazed meat (primarily beef, pork, sheep), abundant fruit, veg, and herbs grown organically, access to the garden and harvesting their food themself, medicines, teas, tinctures, and oils from our apothecary, and bulk goods we order from Costco such as olive oil, rice, quinoa, coconut oil, oat milk, peanut butter, etc.

2. living for free onsite in our rustic RV, enjoying the greater 14 acres that we live on. Access to bathroom, shower, indoor toilet + composting toilet, outdoor and indoor kitchens, sauna, recreational yurt space, forest garden + events at the farm. Utilities completely covered in trade.

Who we are: the farm is the pilot site of an operational nonprofit that seeks to regenerate degraded landscapes with low-water solutions. We're a fun-loving, passionate, earthy group of people. There are currently five other residents on the farm, four of which have access to private bathrooms.

Please email show contact info with a little bit about yourself, your background, your cooking experience and your phone number.
