Vintage Stanley #H1204 smooth plane, (some say smoothing plane, or even Number 4 plane, referencing the older Stanley Bailey size convention)--in excellent conditon.
New enough to not be an antique, but old enough to be made in the USA.
This one looks like it has very little use. People thought they needed one to round out a1960s or 70s tool collection, but they found little to no use for a smooth plane versus a sander during the growing power tool era.
This plane has all of its components in great working order, with no damage or rust.
The plane's tuning tells the story that it was owned by a collector after the first (non) user.
The sole looks like it's been lapped (flattened), and the top of the lever cap has custom-bent "ears" to make it arch against the cutting iron more securely. It also has a vintage sales tag/brochure, which a collector would be sure to keep.
Like other Stanley planes of its era, this one utilizes a classic type frog for adjusting the position of the iron and the desired mouth clearance for shavings, and features a lateral adjustment lever, and a wooden knob and tote.
A very clean, ready to use, vintage smooth plane, complete with the sales literature of its time.
